Resort-City of Zheleznovodsk

Zheleznovodsk is the smallest and coziest place in the Caucasian Mineral waters area. It is located between Mt. Beshtau and Mt. Zheleznaya in the Zheleznovodsk Valley, which is all smothered in thick forest looking like a sea with dome-like and steep islands. The Zheleznovodsky Park is the only natural park in the region of the Caucasian Mineral Waters.

The hot and warm natural springs of the Zheleznovodsk pool have attracted people since long ago. Already in as early as 1793 the famous scientist P.S. Pallas mentioned this miracle water in his works.

Nowadays Zheleznovodsk has about 30 historical, architectural and natural monuments.

The therapeutic profile of Zheleznovodsk includes diseases of the digestive system, kidneys, and urinary tract.

Zheleznovodsk – a spa and mud resort, which is also the most picturesque of the four resorts of the Caucasian Mineral Waters region – is located 19 km north of Pyatigorsk, 21 km away from the railway station of Mineralnye Vody and 6 km away from the station of Beshtau. The resort is located at the foot of Mt. Zheleznaya on its southern and south-eastern slope at an altitude of 570-650 m above sea level in a narrow valley of two small rivers – the Dzheymuk and the Kuchuk, between Mt. Beshtau and Mt. Zheleznaya.

The main asset of the resort are mineral springs – more than 20 of them, actually. Most springs are within the park area and are used not only for drinking but also for mineral baths. Another resources used therapeutically is mud from Lake Tambukan. One of the therapeutic exercises used widely here is so-called dosage walk, for which purpose there are specially designed terrainkurs. The park here is a huge natural forest covering an area of 57 ha. This area was turned into park in 1825; and there is a pond in its eastern part.

Currently Zheleznovodsk offers stay in more than 20 resort hotels that have over 80,000 visitors annually. Hotels like The Caucasus, The Mountain Air, The Oak Grove, The Beshtau, The Russia, The Mashuk, The Elbrus, and others are well known both in Russia and internationally for their state-of-art medical-diagnostic equipment and first-class treatment.
